The launch party we threw at the Tribeca Cinema in NYC last month was a blast. Arranged by Flavorpill and my team at Wired, the aim was to go from powerpoint to punk rock, extending as far as possible from the regular book party model to bring the Long Tail to life with a concert of indie artists. Bands that performed included Spank Rock, the Brazilian Girls, Aloe Blacc, James Murphy (DFA/LCD Soundsystem), with a special appearance by David Byrne.
This short video by M ss ng P eces gives a taste of the incredible evening, interspersing performance clips with brief interviews with the artists. It's marred only by a few interview with me, where you can see what a guy looks like on the last day of a two week international book tour. I was beat and it showed. But everyone else looked and sounded fabulous.
UPDATE: Notice the bit in the video where I'm drinking a Bud Select? Turns out that was paid product placement. Hey guys, where's my cut?
I recently read a very interesting take on Amazon's EC3 and why the author believes its not about margins in infrastructure.

I'm reading your book now because I have to review it.
I'm enjoying the assignment a lot.
Question about your launch party:
Did you have mostly heads or tails at the party?
How could you tell the heads from the tails?
Also, do you have a small piece (re-spun or re-cycled) that I could feature in my Frugal Duchess Blog?
For instance:
Will you chat about what you spent during that two-week book tour or about your own approach to money?
Thanks so much!

Hi Chris, I am reading your book at the moment and I have one question for you.
I work in the niche market, very niche market, in very small country Croatia - very small market in relativelly big Europe.
Do you think niche market is long term gain for smaller or bigger markets?
thanks and best from Croatia

Those magazines which do a decent job, of covering the topic of technology, often lack competency with other areas of interest. This reason for this being covered, is because of it indicating a new era, for video production.
