You can get FREE free on the Kindle (and Kindle iPhone app if you don’t have a Kindle) now. It’s been up for a few days and the free offer will end on Wed, Jul 22nd, so get it now. [UPDATE: the free offer is now over, and the book is now at the usual discount price of $9.99. It’s still available for free on Scribd, Google Books and Shortcovers, as well as in audiobook form on iTunes] As you can see from the above screenshot, it’s already the #1 Kindle book. (US only, I’m afraid.)
It’s also available for free on the Sony Reader, also for one week.
The book is also available for free (for one month) on Shortcovers, where you can link to individual chapters and pages.
For those of you outside the US, local free versions will be determined by the publisher in each region. Please stay tuned.
And before Amazon decides to delete it.

Now if Amazon would start selling Kindles to Canada we'd be all set.

Amazon - Kindle may delete it even before 22nd. Looking back at recent fiasco I am pretty sure Kindle credibility is little bit lost.

I tried downloading it, and here is what I get :
"We could not process your order because of geographical restrictions on the product which you were attempting to purchase. Please refer to the terms of use for this product to determine the geographical restrictions."
(I am currently in Greece).

Slightly disappointed. Caught Mr. Anderson on Charlie Rose last night as he extolled the virtues of Free and the related distribution. Immediately attempted to download via Kindle and was presented with only the paid version.

"Ends on 22 July" means, to me, that the 22nd is the Last Day of the offer.
However, the offer appears to have actually ended on Tuesday 21 July .... since at 10.20 am Pacific the Kindle version is not free.
Chris, I would have expected clarity from a wordsmith.

Chris,
I subscribe by RSS to this blog as I am a disciple of the long tail. I'm not sure if your second book fit's in this blog, aptly titled..... The Long Tail.
You may want to change the name of the blog or get a second blog.
PS. I am yet to buy into the 'Free' concept.

I followed the link to Amazon, it said free, then Amazon unexpectedly charged my credit card for $9.99.
Can't display the order on My Account (errors)
If Amazon doesn't reverse the charge or at least cancel the order I will contact AMEX and open a fraud complaint.

Unfortunately it is only on the US iTunes site. I am in Australia. I can't even sign up to the US stoe for free content as it requires a credit card issued by a US bank.
Bummer.

I would really like to see some of the numbers behind this analysis. I wonder, for example, whether it takes into account the hit publishers and retailers take when used books hit the market, something that can’t happen with ebooks. That cuts into the margin in the end, though I don’t know how significantly.
